John Culver

John Culver ’20 was a standout member of the Dowling Catholic swimming program, leaving a lasting mark both in and out of the pool. A team captain, Culver was a two-time Dowling Catholic record holder and a member of the state record-holding 200-yard medley relay team. He was also a three-time top-three finisher in individual events at the Iowa State Swimming Championships.

 

An accomplished student as well as an athlete, Culver graduated in the top 3% of the Dowling Catholic Class of 2020, earned recognition on the Presidential Honor Roll and received the 2020 Scholar Athlete Award.

 

Culver continued his swimming career at Southern Methodist University, serving as a team captain in 2024. He was a two-time NCAA B Standard qualifier and earned All-Conference honors in the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley in 2024. A four-time Honor Roll with Distinction recipient, Culver graduated cum laude.

 

Today, Culver works as a Senior Analyst at ASR Group in New York. He credits the lifelong connections he made with teammates, coaches and competitors as some of the most meaningful parts of his time at Dowling Catholic. His favorite memories include joining the varsity team as a freshman and learning from the example set by the upperclassmen. He also fondly remembers attending seminar in Coach Spike’s classroom alongside his teammates — even after spending so much of their day together.
