Earl Hulst

Special Honoree - Photography
Earl Hulst began his career in education, first teaching and coaching for 12 years at West Sioux and Sheldon, before spending more than 27 years at Sacred Heart in West Des Moines, including teaching summer math classes. During his teaching career, he developed a passion for photography, building a career that has spanned 35 years and includes work with Drake University, Iowa State, Iowa Women’s Basketball, the Iowa Cubs, and Dowling Catholic, while also running his own senior and family photography business.

Earl’s connection to Dowling Catholic began over 30 years ago and continues today. He started taking photos at Dowling when his Sacred Heart students moved on to DCHS, and he started attending their events and photographing their games and activities. Over time, he became one of the school’s primary photographers. Today, he can often be found on the sidelines and even traveling to different cities to capture key moments. From football games and school plays to classroom moments, concerts, and graduation ceremonies, Earl has captured countless memories for students, families, and the school community with skill and dedication. Through his lens, generations of Maroons have had their accomplishments and experiences preserved for years to come.

His own memories revolve around the performances of the athletes, actors, musicians, coaches, and everyone who has made DCHS a part of his life and given him this opportunity.
