Ty Flood is a living embodiment of a Dowling Catholic graduate - one who is truly a leader for life, centered on Christ. As a student at DCHS, Ty learned servant leadership in the halls among his peers and athletic arenas alongside his teammates. In his senior year, Ty was selected to be homecoming King, captain of the wrestling team, captain of the rugby team, and captain of football team where he contributed to Coach Tom Wilson's first ever state championship in 2010. As a wrestler, Ty placed eighth in the Class 3A State Tournament.
Following graduation he pursued a business degree at the University of Northern Iowa. While attending the university, he was active in the Catholic Student Center attending weekly Mass and benefitting from the spiritual guidance of the university's priest chaplain. Upon graduation, he integrated into the St. John's Basilica parish community in Des Moines where he currently attends with his high school sweetheart, Cecilia (Shedenhelm) Flood ‘11, and his four young children, Rutledge (Class of 2035), Coy (Class of 2036), Pax (Class of 2037), and Belle (Class of 2038).
Ty supports Dowling Catholic through his dedication to leading Ut Fidem groups for the past eight years and coaching youth wrestling for the Maroon Mat Club for the past three years. He seeks to integrate his Catholic faith into his workplace at Holmes Murphy of Des Moines where he meets weekly with his colleagues in a faith centered men's group. He has shown servant leadership to the greater Des Moines area through his involvement in Big Brothers Big Sisters and Rotary Club. Beginning in 2019, Ty began raising funds on the Gala Committee for Innervisions HealthCare, a medical center that provides support for young men and women facing unplanned pregnancies.
He seeks to strengthen his vocation as a husband by being a regular participant in the Catholic married couples group "Teams of Our Lady." He seeks to strengthen his vocation as a father by his involvement in The Troops of St. George, a Catholic apostolate where fathers and their sons together seek lives of beauty, virtue, and adventure through monthly campouts.
What he remembers most about his experience at DCHS is the camaraderie and brotherhood built on the football field, wrestling mat, and locker room. Dowling Catholic is also where he met his future wife and mother of his children.
