Miranda Leek

2011 Graduate
Miranda, who graduated with honors from DCHS, says, “While I was attending DCHS, not only was I receiving a well-rounded education, I was also learning the values and principles of Olympism.” At age 19, she represented the U.S. in Archery at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the first to qualify for the women’s team.

Miranda’s journey to the Olympics began when her father, Scott, introduced her to the sport at age five. She won several state titles, two national titles and a world title, breaking many records. Her coach recognized she had Olympic potential, however DCHS didn’t have an archery team so Miranda trained at home and at the Olympic Training Center in California, traveling to compete while focusing on her studies. In 2010 she became the first U.S. female to compete in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. She won the 2011 Gold Cup, Arizona Cup and Nor’easter, and Silver at the Florida Gator Cup. During her archery career, Miranda competed in 19 states and 13 countries, was ranked the #1 U.S. archer in women’s recurve for 2011 through 2013 and at one time was ranked #5 in the world.

Miranda attended Texas A&M for two years and earned collegiate national titles as a member of the archery team. She graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in environmental science and was hired as State Archery Education Coordinator for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, which combined her love of archery and environmental science. For the past two years she has developed and implemented the archery-in-the-schools program throughout Oregon. This fall Miranda began working towards her Ph.D. in biochemistry and biophysics at Oregon State University.
