  • Intro To Engineer Design

Introduction to Engineering Design – (DMACC)
    Credit: 1.0
    Offered to grades: 9‐12
    Category: Elective
Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in Algebra I

In this introductory course, students learn about the impact engineers have on our everyday lives. They learn how products are designed and created. Using computer aided design (CAD) software, students use the design process to create, sketch, analyze, render, and construct solutions to various challenges. This is the first course in the acclaimed Project Lead the Way series and is a prerequisite for all other PLTW courses. Additional course fee is $75.
  • Princ Of Engineer (RAI)

Principles of Engineering – (RAI, DMACC)
    Credit: 1.0
    Offered to grades: 10-12

    Category: Elective
    Prerequisites: IED and completion of or concurrent enrollment in Geometry;

11-12th graders may waive IED with Dept Chair approval

The second course in the PLTW series is a hands-on course which exposes students to concepts they will encounter as an engineer. Students will learn how engineers use problem solving skills to benefit people and improve lives. The focus of this course is to have students build, test, and analyze solutions to various challenges. Topics include simple machines, energy, electricity, thermodynamics, structures, materials, programming, robotics, statistics, and kinematics. Additional course fee is $75.
  • Civil Eng & Archit

Civil Engineering and Architecture – (DMACC)
    Credit: 1.0
    Offered to grades: 11‐12
    Category: Elective
    Prerequisite: POE

This third/fourth year course offered in the PLTW series provides an overview of the Civil Engineering and Architecture professions while emphasizing the relationship and interdependence between the two. Students will apply their knowledge of engineering principles to the design and development of residential and commercial projects. Students will use architectural 3D software to

communicate their solutions to a variety of real‐world challenges. Additional course fee is $75.
  • Aerospace Eng

    Aerospace Engineering
    Credit: 1.0
    Offered to grades: 11-12

    Category: Elective
    Prerequisite: POE

This third/fourth year course offered in the PLTW series provides a glimpse into the field of Aerospace Engineering. AE explores the evolution of flight, navigation and control, flight fundamentals, aerospace materials, propulsion, space travel, and orbital mechanics. Students will design, build, and analyze aerospace systems such as hot air balloons, gliders, rockets, and satellites. Students will discover the reality and complexity of aerospace design. Additional course fee is $75.
  • Computer Science Principles

    Computer Science Principles
    Credit: 1.0
    Offered to grades: 10‐12
    Category: Elective
Prerequisite: POE or Computer Programming I
CSP is a PLTW course where students develop computational thinking and solve problems. The course covers the College Board’s new CS Principles framework. The course does not aim to teach mastery of a single programming language, but aims instead to develop computational thinking, generate excitement about the field of computing, and introduce computational tools that foster creativity. The course also aims to build students’ awareness of the tremendous demand for computer specialists and for
professionals in all fields who have computational skills. Students will consider the present and future impacts computing has on society. Additional course fee is $75.
