Dowling Aquatics provides the Greater Des Moines Community a full range of opportunities.  Current programs include high school men's swimming, high school women's swimming, high school women's diving, water polo, and summer swimming lessons.   We are proud to announce the latest addition to the family.  The Dowling Riptide Age Group Swim Team.

The Dowling Riptide Swim Team is a direct feeder to the Dowling Catholic High School Swimming programs.  At its core, the Riptide Swim Team has the same values as Dowling High School.  It will inspire a Christ-centered love of aquatics and respect for fellow human beings through the application of moral principles and excellence.  Riptide Swimming also stresses the six pillars of character:  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

Riptide Swimming believes our swimmers should be respected, cared about and well-coached.  We want every athlete to have a positive experience while being a part of a team that builds physical, social, spiritual and emotional skills. Some of the greatest memories that a young person has will come from a sports team that they were involved in. We want our athletes to love participating here and have fun while competing.

The team is open to all who want to join, however, the number of participants will be limited due to pool time, space and the number of coaches available.  Some knowledge of swimming is important as this is not a learn-to-swim program. Each participant must have a willingness to work hard, be coachable and try to be the best they can be.

The Dowling Riptide Age Group Swim Team will put a tremendous emphasis on
 respect, sportsmanship and class.

Our coaches, parents and athletes represent our school in the community and around the state of Iowa. We have a responsibility to treat people with respect and to be good role models while at the same time competing at a high level as a team.

WHEN YOU INVEST, YOU WILL GET A RETURN. IT’S UP TO YOU HOW BIG OF A RETURN YOU WANT!

Coaches will be working hard to help all swimmers to do their best at every practice.  Please help the coaches perform their job in the most efficient way possible by saving any questions you may have until after practice.  We also request that parents that would like to observe practice to please sit in the balcony not on the pool deck.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

To ensure the success of our swimmers, the club relies on parent volunteers for various tasks.  Parents are expected to help run the home swim meets and other tasks throughout the season.  Parents must sign up to help at the home meets.  Each family is expected to help at one or more home meets in one of the volunteer positions listed below.  Volunteer sheets will be available at an orientation meeting before the season begins.  If you do not sign up, the volunteer coordinators will call you and assign you with a duty of volunteer position.  New volunteers will be paired with experienced volunteers to learn their duties.  Volunteers will be able to watch their children swim in their events.  You will receive a reminder call before each home meet reminding you of your volunteer position.  If you are unable to work assigned task, it is your responsibility to find your own replacement.  It is also your responsibility to initial the volunteer check in sheet just inside the pool door at home meets to indicate that you have worked your volunteer shift.  Volunteer positions include:  Timers, timing computer, results, clerk of course, swimmer line up, set up, take down, event markers, ribbons and awards.

PARENT BOARD:

In order for the team to be successful, we will be soliciting applications for a number of positions on the Board of Directors.  We will contact last year’s board and see how many new members we will need.  If you are interested in a board position please see one of the coaches.  Positions include: Secretary, Public Relations, Volunteer Coordinator, Ribbons and Awards, and At-Large.  The board will have 7 – 10 members.

MEET INFORMATION:

We will publish the meet schedule as soon as we have it.  Our conference meeting is usually in September for the winter season and in April for the summer season.

Meet sign up:

Cards need to be filled out on the following days:

Monday meets - cards need to be filled out by the Thursday before.

Thursday meets – cards need to be filled out by the Saturday before.

Saturday meets – cards need to be filled out by the Monday before.

Cards will be located on the pool deck, please fill the cards out completely and place them in the box provided.  PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR MEET SIGN UP.  Swimmers are allowed to swim in a total of four events but only three individual events.  They could swim 2 individual and two relays or 3 individual and one relay.  It’s the responsibility of the swimmers and parents to sign the entry card and turn it in.

Relays:

The coaches will do relays from the cards submitted.  If your cards are not submitted on time your swimmer may not be in a relay.  In our regular meets relays may not always be our best swimmers in one relay.  We will switch kids around so they can try other strokes and get to know their teammates better.  At the conference meet we will put together the best possible relays.

Meet Times and Specifics:

Swimmers need to be at the meet site by 5:20 P.M.  For the most part meets will begin at 6:00 P.M.  Saturday meets are TBA but will usually be in the morning check the schedule for these times.  If your swimmer is not in a relay we will try to place them in a relay at the meet if we have enough swimmers.  Please do not show up at the meet minutes before it is to begin.

Individual meet numbers need to be placed on the swimmers hands before they get to the meet.  A sharpie should be used to do this.  Please remember what events they signed up for and use the event sheet to get the correct numbers.  The coaches do not have time to do this at the meets.

Swimmers will be expected to sit with the team and not with parents in the spectator area.  This makes it easier for coaches to find the swimmers and it also helps when cheering for our fellow teammates. We can always use parental help with supervision of the swimmers.

After a meet, whether at home or away, we expect all swimmers and parents to help clean up our area of all rappers and debris that accumulates during a swim meet.

We recommend that swimmers bring the following items to each meet:  Team suit, towels, team cap, goggles, sweats or warm clothing, a water bottle and a healthy snack, if desired.

If your swimmer gets sick and can’t attend the meet we need to know by 12:00 noon on the day of the meet if it is a weekday meet.   For Saturday meets we would like to know by 7:00 A.M. the day of the meet.  You can let us know by calling DCHS at 222-1038 and leave a message or by e-mailing us at riptideswimclub@gmail.com.

Ribbons:

Ribbons are awarded to swimmers who compete in the meets.  Ribbons will be handed out a soon as possible after the meets.  We need a number of parents to help with the ribbons in order for them to be given out to the swimmers in a timely manner.  Please don’t hesitate to volunteer to help with the ribbons.
