College Planning Seminar
Dear Parents,

It's important for students and parents to be aware of the planning process in the freshman and sophomore years. In visiting colleges, checking with our graduates, following the job trends, keeping up with economic news, the next few years may see money tighten, insecurity in the job market and colleges may need to evaluate their programs and adjust to the changing economy. Preparation will be key for students to make life changing decisions.

Many of you asked if students should attend. I don't believe that I am overstating the fact that the years after high school lay the foundation for the future. Now more than ever students need to take ownership of this process. The competition for college entrance and employment will get keener.

Being open to questions and comments from the audience is important to me. Group size affects the amount of interaction.  I would like to expand the sessions by repeating the presentations on Nov. 16 and 23 in order to have smaller groups. Same presentation over three weeks. Please let me know if a specific date would work best for you or which ones would not work.

Dates: Nov. 9, 16, 23.

Time: 2:00 - 4:00

I am excited about the presentation. Please come if you can.

College Visits

vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv

It is never too early to visit colleges. During the school year there will be days off for students due to professional development programs and conferences. I'll be happy to talk to you about colleges to visit and set the visits up for you.

Many college representatives will be visiting Dowling this fall to talk about their school. A number will come out at night to be able to see students and parents. I will alert you to their coming through e-mail.

Interested students should get a pass from Student Services Center.

College Open Houses
It is important to visit colleges to get the up close feel of the school, meet people, see the facilities, and get scholarship information. All colleges are open during the week and provide tours, information sessions and many arrange meetings with faculty, coaches, etc. However it is not always possible for students and parents to be able to get the day off from school or work to visit colleges. Many colleges are open on Saturdays for regular visits and some have a special Open House with many activities.

Enjoy a beautiful fall weekend day by visiting a college.
